Peverelist & Guido Dubkasm remixes on 12"

Category: , , , , By brockolio

Set for release this October, Bristol reggae label Sufferah's Choice has teamed up with Punch Drunk for the 12" vinyl release of Peverelist & Guido's remixes from Dubkasm's 'Transform I- remixed' album.  The album features reinterpretations of tracks off of Dubkasm's crticially acclaimed debut reggae LP 'Transform I', enlisting help from some of Bristol's biggest names in bass music.

Staying true to the roots of the music, each producer puts their own unique twist on a select cut off of the LP, the results of which are enough to please fans of reggae, dub, and dubstep alike.

Dubkasm featuring Ras Addis 'Strictly Ital' Peverelist mix by Peverelist

Peverelist's 'Strictly Ital' remix strips the original down and saturates it in a sea of heavy delay and reverb as the effect laden vocals of Ras Addis and sub-bass swells in and out of the mix.  Deep, tribal, minimal dub music.  Look out for his collaborative 12" with fellow Bristol producer Hyetal 'The Hum / RRRR' forthcoming on Punch Drunk this October.

Nyah Keith Remix by guido productions

Guido's 'Nyah Keith' remix marks Guido's first venture onto wax since the release of his phenomenal debut LP on Punch Drunk 'Anidea' saw release earlier this year.  If you've heard the album, you doubt know the kid has 'Mad Sax' skills, making this the perfect tune for him to sink his teeth into.  Throwing colorful swatches of synths into the fray alongside a swinging brass section, Guido injects his own flavor into the remix while still allowing the original reggae elements to shine through.

DJ Stryda of Dubkasm, who headed up the remix project pointed us to this video of the CD release party live in Bristol this past Spring:

You can also preview and purchase the entire 'Transform I- remixed' album with remixes from Pinch, Headhunter, Hyetal, Appleblim, Gatekeeper, Gemmy, Jakes, and more HERE on iTunes.

Dubkasm ft. Ras Addis- Strictly Ital (Peverelist remix) / Dubkasm 'Nyah Keith' (Guido remix) releases on Sufferah's Choice 12" vinyl October 12th.

DNAE Beats- Reptilian MIDI Jazz [exclusive mp3]

DNAE BEATS- Reptilian MIDI Jazz (DOWNLOAD)  (Mediafire)

Here's the latest Bassfaced exclusive mp3 from the hands and mind of San Francisco producer DNAE Beats. We had this one dropped in our inbox earlier this morning and we're wasting no time getting it out to ya!  Just back from his recent tour in Australia, playing 2-Sold out gigs and having 'Lightyears' off of Escape 2 Mars cracking the top 10 on Sydney's famous Triple J Radio; be sure to catch him making big moves in the States this Fall.

SF crew, you can catch him live at Public Works on September 25th alongside Mount Kimbie, Mary Anne Hobbes, Asura, and NastyNasty. Also look out for a joint tour with Lazer Sword's Low Limit this October, blappin' through the Rockies and PacNW.

We asked DNAE to drop some knowledge on RMJ:

"Repitilian Midi Jazz was produced on foggy afternoon on a mpc2500, moog voyager, korg ms2000 during the final month of producing & mixing Gift Of Gab of Blackalcious's new album Escape 2 Mars. The plan at first was to have Gab write to the track & it was to be a serect song. Well due to the deadline, that never happened. 2 weeks later my laptop died witch held the tracked & finished verison of the song.

A few weeks ago while digging thru a few external hard drives for a completely different project, i came across Reptilian Midi Jazz. I thought Bassfaced would be the perfect place to give it out to the public."

LV- Boomslang video [hyperdub]

Category: , , By brockolio

We first heard of LV's music in 2007 with the release of their monumental collaboration with vocalist Errol Bellot 'Globetrotting'.  With releases over the past couple years on Hyperdub and 2nd Drop, LV have been on fire this year with 3 releases so far in 2010.  Their first release of the year, a collab with Untold 'Beacon' was released on his Hemlock label in March (complete with stunning remix from Mt. Kimbie on the flip) as well as another Hyperdub release with Japan's Quarta330 titled 'Hylo.'  The 5-track '38 EP' on Dusk & Blackdown's Keysound imprint has also seen release this past Spring.

Their most recent 12" effort 'Boomslang ft. Okmalumkoolkat / Zharp' takes influence from South Africa's Kwaito movement and officially drops on Hyperdub on October 11th. For now, enjoy the video sent over from our friend's at Hyperdub/Backspin and also check out an interview conducted with Gerv from LV by Martin Clark about his recent excursion to South Africa, as well as a mix from LV showcasing the South African house sounds of Kwaito HERE.

Been anxiously waiting to unleash this one on everyone this week. Not only because it comes from the homeys Hirshi & Phleghm, but it also features a bunch of unreleased tuneage from some of our favorite people out there making music today.

After many a night at the NYC monthly Turrbotax downing complimentary Asahi's, I had approached Dan and Zach about putting together a mix for the blog. What they delivered was a 40-minute journey of almost strictly unreleased material from friends and aquaintances they've made through the NYC bass music scene and beyond. Here's some words Dan lent about the mix. Enjoy! and big up Hirshi, Phleghm, and all the producers who lent tunes to the mix! We love you all!

"First of all, I want to thank Bassfaced blog for the opportunity to share this mix with the bass music community. Before we got into the DJing game, Bassfaced was a huge resource for quality mixes and new material which helped shape our style and approach. The content and coverage is consistently next level.

After starting The Grime Machine on WNYU.org (now Sundays 6-8PM) almost 2-years ago, Zach and I have come along way. Our involvement with dubstep really paved the way for us to think about ALL dance music differently and expand our tastes and interests. The term "bass music" is probably a more appropriate label for our current endeavors. We not only search for the most progressive and forward-thinking music, but have been stimulated retroactively by the origins of electronic music.

The bass music community is thriving and we are blessed to be apart of it. This mix highlights some of the homegrown sounds of people we have interacted with as a part of this global community. Our local bass family is represented here with tracks from Incyde, Mayster, Contakt, Damien Granz, Jusjackin, Subox1, Cosmo D, Blind Prophet and myself. Our extended family reaches across the country with tracks from Atlanta friend Distal and L.A. transplant Cromie, as well as internationally with tunes from Montreal's HGLDT and UK brethren Kingthing and Submerse. The tracks have been selected for their variety of style and showcase a grassroots inventiveness that you may not have a had a chance to hear anywhere else. We are proud to be affiliated with these artists-- they are our friends and our family in this bass community! They help us push our sound forward!

Must tip my hat to Soundcloud. This site changed the way we interact with tunes, as DJs and producers, and has been a major creative force. The platform is beautifully designed and encourages critical feedback and community interaction. It's the fucking bomb. Most of the artists in our mix can be found on this site, so check them out there if you want to hear more.

Hirshi & Phleghm are here to stay. Our BLANK party is now officially a monthly (Last Saturdays at Tandem, Bushwick--> Next dates 8/28 w/ No Regular Play + 9/25 TBA) and we are happy to be working with Contakt + Mayster, who run our favorite NY party, Turrbotax®. Having brought to you exclusive sets from Jubilee, Incyde and DJ Dex (Underground Resistance) we are going to strive for more eclectic and exciting bookings for the future.

Our next big thing is still in the works, but I'll let you all know that it is going to be an event emphasizing both DJ and live instrumentation. We are hooking up with some amazing local musicians right now, electronic and otherwise, and we are building a team for a fresh new take on the universal dance party. Keep your eyes peeled for more info."
